First and only edition of this extensive, nicely illustrated history of the Dutch province of Zeeland, by Jacobus Ermerins (1725-1795). The first part contains a description of the villages Zandyk, Vrouwenpolder, Schellach, Oostkapelle, Duynbeke, the cloister of Zoetendaal and the town Popkenburg. In the second part Vossemeer and Vrybergen are treated, the third part is devoted to the Lords of Veere from the Houses of Borssele and Burgondy, the castle and capital of Zandenburg, and the Lords of Borssele of Spreeuwenstein, part four to Rommerswale, parts five and six to Veere, the town of which Ermerins was secretary, part seven to the island Zuid Beveland and the villages Valkenisse, Waarden, Krabbendijke en Kruiningen, and part eight to the island and town of Tholen, the villages Schakerloo and Poortvliet, the islands Schouwen and Duiveland, the towns Zierikzee, Noordgouwen and St.-Jeronimuspolder. In the last part of volume 8, published after the death of Ermerins by H. A. Bruining, a short biography of Ermerins is included. The plates are by M. Fessard, L. Brasser, W. Abrahams and Th. Koning after the drawings by Ab Meertens and P. v.d. Heuvel.
