Rare ornamental model book for architects, sculptors, cabinetmakers, silversmiths, etc., by Georg Caspar Erasmus, active at Nuremberg as cabinetmaker in the second half of the 17th century. The beautiful Stephansaltar in the St. Sebaldus Church at Nuremberg still bears witness to his art. The so-called 'Column-Book' was first published in 1666, and was several times republished. The plates were engraved by Wilhelm Pfann after the rich Barock style and auricle ornaments of Erasmus. Here only the plates are present, without the text, numbered 1-39 and with a second additional unnumbered plate fastened underneath the plates 5-12, 17, 27 and 33; together they show a  continuing design in height. The book is rarily found complete or in good condition as the plates were much used for practical models in the workshop.

Good, but sl. used copy.- (Boards rubbed; some plates repaired; sl. tumbed).
Berl. Kat. 1962-3; Thieme-Becker 10, pp. 587-8.
