With 100 numbered engraved plates with drawing models of parts of the human body, heads and human figures, landscapes, animals, costumes, genre pieces, plants, butterflies, birds, etc., the first 50 plates after Sebastian Le Clerc, the other 50 after various artists. 4 pp. text. Beautiful engraved drawing book for youth, preceeded by a short explanation of the materials and colours to use. As elaborately stated on title the course teaches the "Art of Drawing, Elegantly engraved on One Hundred Copper-plates, in the Following Method: 1. Lessons adapted to lead the Pupil gradually from the First Practice on Parts of the Human Body to the Drawing of the Whole Academy Figures, in Fifty Plates, by Sebastian Le Clerc. II. Examples of Landscapes sketched in Outlines for the first Attempts of the Pupil, and finished with Shadings for his after Practices. In several Original Plates, by Chatelaine, Viveres, Vansumer, &c. III. Designs of Sea Pieces; many Examples in Horses, Cattle, Fowls and Flowers, after the best Masters in each Subject." The first 50 plates, after Sebastian Le Clerc, show eyes, mouths, ears and detailed studies of the human head, arms, feet, legs, torsos and complete human figures as teached in the Art Academies, and the last 50 plates, mostly with two engravings or with two states of the same illustration to one plate, show finished landscapes, ships, portraits, costumes, animals, including several portraits of horses and racing, and a full-page portrait of a cat, flowers, plants and birds after well-known artists, mostly with one line of text engraved on the plate: "Published by Carrington Bowles, Jan. 2nd 1773". Carrington Bowles (1724-1793), is known to have published the "All Draughtsmen's Assistant" in 1777, but the present title we could not trace. Fine copy.- (Binding sl. rubbed).
