Issum, Mühl & Leendertz, (ca. 1860). Sm.8vo. Orig. yellow wrappers with illustration on front cover of a slate with title and vignette of a woman teaching a child to draw on a slate. With 16 full-page plates with illustrations in white on black with calligraphed title underneath, showing children's games and pastimes, including a fine view of a class-room. (16) pp.

Rare children's drawing book, published in Germany for the Dutch market, with beautiful examples of drawings to make with a slate-pencil on a black slate. It is number III of a series, so the book is meant for already somewhat experienced draughtsmen. The attractive plates show birds on a branch with cherries and a butterfly, a lighted tree on christmas' eve, children riding a donkey, an organ-grinder, a chimney-sweep, children catching butterflies, feeding the swans, riding a goat-cart, etc. In the fine view of a classroom all children are drawing on their slates.

Fine copy.- (Wrappers sl. soiled).
Not in NUC.
