Original marbled wrappers. (2), 263, (1) pp. First and only edition of this important treatise on the early history of the province of Friesland in the north of the Netherlands. On October the 9th 1834 Jan van Doornicnk (1809-1869), at the time still studying in Leiden and later on lawyer in his birth town Deventer, historian and archivist in Kampen en of the province of Overijssel, was awarded with the gold medal for this answer to the questions, put by the University of Groningen, about the origins, borders, names, first inhabitants etc. of the province of Friesland. Jan van Doorninck was the father of J.I. van Doorninck, the author of the Bibliotheek van Nederlandse anonymen en pseudonymen (The Hague, etc. 1866-70). Good uncut copy.- (Marbled paper on back gone).
