The French-Dutch volume only of one of the famous dictionaries, also including expressions and whole sentences of conversation, published by Jan van Waesberghe the Younger at Rotterdam, in the tradition of the great dictionaries published by his father Jan van Waesberghe the Elder at Antwerp. These early dictionaries still were in fact language primers, teaching the children their own and any other language.
The publisher himself edited and added to the present dictionary, which was based as he states in his dedication to the city-councellors of Rotterdam, on those by Glaude Luython, Gabriel Meurier, Matthieu Sasbout, Eduard Leon Mellema, as well as on the older dictionaries by M. Nicod and Jacques du Puis, whose portraits all are depicted on the first engraved title, with the exception of that of Luython in whose place a portrait of Jan van Waesberghe is given. Added at the end are a short French-Dutch vocabulary, also including expressions and conversational sentences, on navigation, a more extensive one on hunting, and a short vocabulary on falconry.
