Collection of the principal works of René Descartes (1596-1650), arguably the most influential philosopher of early modern Europe. The Principia philosopiaæ, here in the second edition, was first published in 1644 by Louis Elzevier, and contains the philosopher's thoughts on the structure of the universe, including his highly influential vortex theory, illustrated atfter drawing by Franciscus van Schooten. The present edition was also published as part of the Opera philosopihca (1650), as were the other 2 works in this collection. The Specimina philosophiæ (ad 2), a Latin translation of Discourse de la methode, first appeared in 1644 and was reprinted in 1650. The present edition is the third, corrected edition, which has the same lay-out as the second and probably therefore escaped the notice of Willems, Rahir and Berghman. The same is true for the Passiones animæ (ad 3), here in the third, corrected edition, which was first distinguished by Van Otegem (2002).

Good copies. Binding restored.
