The 'Course of experimental Philosophy' of which this is a translation is a collection of readings and publications about centrifugal engines, ventilators, hygrometers, etc. The plates show mills, pumps, fire-engines, etc. John Theophilus Desaguliers (1683-1744) Hugenot refugee, professor in experimental philosophy at Oxford, establisher of the Oxford planetarium, an authority in physical life of this days, discussing with Newton (of which he also translated the Principia).
