DEKNATEL, Johannes.
Menno Simons in 't Kleine, Behelzende Verscheide merkwaardige Verhandelingen en woordelijke Uittrekzels uit zyne Werken. Vergadert en in 't licht gegeeven. Benevens drie Predikatien van den uitgever.

Tweede druk. Amsterdam, J. Ter Beek, K. de Veer, 1758. Sm.8vo. Contemporary vellum. (16), 350 pp.

The basic teachings by Menno Simons, the founding father of the Dutch Mennonites, compiled by Jeme, later Johannes Deknatel (1698-1759), to which are added three sermons by Deknatel, short contents of the Old and the New Testament, and a meditation and prayer to Jesus.
Johannes Deknatel was Mennonite preacher of the Lamist Church at Amsterdam, author of widely used devotional books, and chief promotor of Pietism among the Dutch Mennonites. His influence was great and lasting, extending far beyond the Dutch borders. Meeting first Spangenberg at Amsterdam in 1734, and later Count Zinzendorf in 1737, Deknatel joined the Moravian Brethren, while also staying within the Amsterdam Lamist Church. John Wesley was a guest in Deknatel's home in 1738, and Deknatel was in correspondence not only with Mennonites in Germany and Switzerland, but also with the Moravian Brethren in Germany, the Hutterian Brethren in Hongary, and with Lutheran pastors in Copenhagen and Tübingen in Germany. He was a true oecumenial Christian "avant la lettre".
