With engraved illustration on 2 titles, the one on the first title signed and dated by Rosmäsler, 1782, the other on the second title unsigned, but probably by Mayer, and 2 full-page engraved plates, one in the first part by Rosmäsler and the other in the second part by Mayer. Rare first edition of this new German translation of Defoe's "The Life" and "The Farther Adventures of Robinson Crusoe", made after the fifteenth English edition, ascribed to professor J. Chr. Friedrich Schmidt, Schmid, Schmit, or Schmitt from Liegnitz. Hereafter the German translations were only published with long intervals inbetween, as Defoe's Robinson in Germany was almost completely superseded by Campe's adaptation: "Robinson der Jüngere", first published in 1779-1780.
It is curious to note that Defoe's last addition "Serious Reflections" never was included in the German translations, "The Farther Adventures" mostly being called: "Zweyter und Letzter Theil". Still, a German translation under the title "Ernstliche und wichtige Betrachtungen Des Robinson Crusoe" was published at least once, in 1721, but it was published at Amsterdam, and not explicitly linked to the two earlier volumes published in Germany.
