Contemporary marbled calf, spine richly gilt with red title-label, with gilt triple fillet borders on sides with gilt flowered ornaments at the four corners and large gilt coat of arms in centre on both sides, g.e. With large folding colour-printed plate by J. Gautier d'Agoty. (4), CCXX, 429, (3) pp.

First Paris edition with the beautiful colour-printed plate by Gautier d'Agoty, a pupil of Le Blon, size ca. 22 x 31 cm., including ample margins. The book, a famous study on the diseases of the bladder, had been published once before, at Avignon in 1745, in duodecimo. Jacques Daran (1701-1784), enjoyed great fame in his days, and was ennobled by the King in 1755. He among others had Jean Jacques Rousseau as his patient, remembering Daran in his  "Confessions".
