Contemporary black calf, spine ribbed and gilt, covers richly decorated with arabesque central design, and with floral decoration, gilt inner dentelles, marbled endpapers, red sprinkled edges. Engraved title with aquatint, 10 full-page aquatints with scenic views, sites where scenes from the Trojan War presumably took place, archeological sites with ruins from classical Greece, drawn by Marcati and engraved by Stadler. First edition of a work on the city of Constantinople, its history and scenery, by James Dallaway (1763-1834), chaplain at the British embassy at the Porte. Together with the British embassador Mr. Liston he travelled to Constantinople and surroundings. The drawings with the archeological sites and scenery from the Trojan War were designed by Gaetano Mercati who was Liston's draughtsman.  This work was considered best on the subject by Dr. Clarke, the great traveller. Dallaway published several other works on (art)history and heraldry.

Added is a signed letter: "Mr Dallaway's compliments to Mr Davis having been informed - - -[that he] wished some conversation relative to his "Tour to Constantinople & the Greek Islands" now nearly completed for publication"etc."
