Pieter de la Court van der Voorst (1664-1739), was the son of the famous Dutch political economist Pieter de la Court. The latter had been the first to introduce ananas in Europe, and with the help of his gardener, Willem de Vink, had successfully grown them in his garden, from where the plants had spraid over Europe. Through the practical instructions given by the son in the present work the ananas became quite common in the Europese fruit-gardens. In more than one way the work of the son greatly profited by the experience gained in his father's garden. As the author claims, the work was based on the notes he had made on the subject for over fifty years. The work was translated in German and in French. Fine large-paper copy, with the bookplate of Comte Goblet d'Aviella.- (Binding very sl. rubbed).
Berlin Kat. 3406 (first edition of 1737); Springer pp. 42-43.
