Second edition of an amusing book on the theatre and the physiology of its visitors, at Paris and the province in the middle of the 19th century. It is divided in 19 chapters  treating the characteriscs of all kinds of people working in the theatre, i.a. the actors, the director, the playwrights, etc. He also gives a list  of pretty actresses 'du jour' like madam du Plessis, possibly the famous highclass courtisan at the time (p. 72). On page 82 a portrait of Theophile Gautier with his fellow critics.
The first edition appeared in 1841. It was printed in the series 'Physiologies-Aubert'.
