Only edition of this Portuguese translation by Miguel Vicente d'Abreu (1827-1883) of the original edition An historical sketch of Goa: the metropolis of the Portuguese settlements in India: with an account of the present state of that celebrated city, and of the surrounding territories under its immediate jurisdiction, collected from the most authentic sources, written in 1829 in English by the French missionary Denis Louis Cottineau de Kloguen (d. 1830), first published posthumously in Madras in 1831, still reprinted to the present day: for example the New Delhi ed. of 1995. The translation is expanded with an biographical note on the original author and a few notes and corrections by the translator.
The book contains an extensive chronological table with the governors of Goa and Portuguese India, from its conquest till the period Cottineau de Kloguen visited the country. It also contains a description of the state and topography of Goa, and of the surrounding territories under its immediate jurisdiction, with attention for the population, architecture, religion and customs.
