Gouda, for sale in the bookshop of Jacobus Migoen, 1607. 4to. Modern marbled wrappers. With oval woodcut printer's device on the title: 'Ick Paulus hebbe gheplant en Apollo genet maer God geeft den wasdom'. 20 lvs. with the last blank.

First edition of this pamphlet in which Coolhaes warns against the countless editions of 'Almanacs' as still containing many heretical elements and Roman Catholic superstitions such as ample material on the saints. He not only opposes these superstitions, but also gives alternatives for the contents of 'reformed almanacs' (cf. for examplke Knuttel 1561).
Caspar Coolhaes (1534-1615) was a minister in Siegen, Deventer, Gorinchem and Leiden (1574) and is, together with Coornhert and Jan van Hout considered to be a precursor of the 'Remonstranten', the more moderate and tolerant Calvinists. In 1575 he was appointed as the first professor at the newly founded Leiden University. He undoubtedly played an important role in the establishment of the Reformation in the Northern Netherlands, especially after the declaration of independence.

Good copy of this important pamphlet.
