First edition of an extensive travel account describing the people and the terrain of the Bay of California, including abundant information on maritime life, natural phenomena, a detailed description of Sonora with its volcanoes, mines and forests, fruits and products, etc. The French author collected his material during his business ventures in the New World. He sailed with the "Félicie", a vessel he owned together with his shipping associates, mainly between the Mexican ports, Guaymas, Acapulco, Mazatlan and Veracruz, and he also visited Valparaiso, Chile, the La Paz-Loreto area and the Bay of California.
Combier carefully noted his observations of the people and the lands visited, and when he had to retire early because of ill-health, he put his papers in order and published the present travel account. At the end the author added some personal "révélations", experienced during his travels.

Fine, uncut copy.- (Some sl. foxing).
