Extremely rare work on sundials

With woodcut printer's device on the title-page, 20 engraved plates with diagrams. [12], 87, [1] pp. Extremely rare first edition of a work on sundials. Henrik Coets (second half seventeenth century - 1730) originated from Arnhem and became professor of mathematics at Leiden University. The present work contains an explication of sundials and the author refers repeatedly to the diagrams on the engraved plates. The 1689 edition is the first edition. In 1690 (unknown to Bierens de Haan) and 1691 two further editions appeared in Leiden, published by J. du Vivié. The Latin editions are all rare. An enlarged Dutch translation was published in 1705. Coets also served as editor of Euclid's Elementorum sec libri priores and he has other publications on mathematics to his name. Some browning and foxing, gathering E with inkstain lower margin, rear cover stained, spine damaged. Well-preserved, untrimmed copy.
