(12), 621, (20) pp. First Dutch edition of a rare popular book by Georg Ciegler (1551-1633) on the fortunes and misfortunes of the rulers and the great men of the world, a favoured subject with the public in the 17th century. Many of the fine engraved and imaginative plates by Crispyn de Passe illustrate violent death, accidents and murder. The book was translated from the German, and dedicated to the Amsterdam Burgomaster Frans Banning Kock. According to the colophon at the end, the book was printed at Amsterdam by Christoffel Cunradus.
