The original vellum wrappers are bound in. (2), 46 pp. Very rare account of the ceremonies and festivities that took place on the occasion of the installation as the first Nobleman (le premier noble) of the province Zealand of William III, Prince of Orange (1650-1702), the later Stadtholder of the Dutch Republic (1672) and King of England (1689). This event, three weeks before the 18th birthday of William III, the great-grandson and last descendant of 'the Father of the Fatherland' and founder of the Dutch Republic, William of Orange, or William the Silent, had a great symbolic value. As his father, William II had died in 1650, there was no Stadholder and since then there was a political struggle going on relating the question whether or not the Republic should be better off without one. The fact the the Province of Zealand was willing to receive William III as their first Noble man, meant that the Province was also willing to accept him in the near furure as the new Stadholder.booklet consists of six separate pieces: . Letter of 'Philogyton' on the events: "Lettre de Philogyton à Nicophile en luy envoyant la relation de la reception faite a Monsieur le Price d'Orange en la Province de Zelande" (p. 1-9). . Letter to William's mother, Princess of Orange, containing an exact report of the events at the reception of the Prince in Middelburg, the capital of Zealand, on 18-19 September 1668 (p. 9-15). . Continuation, covering the event from 19 till 25 Septembre, reporting of the visits to Middelburg, Flushing, including the famous shipyards, and Veere. The visits were accompanied everywhere by fireworks and other festivities attended by a crowd inclined to applaud the young Prince (p. 16-21). . Solemn address by William III to the States of Zealand, helt in Middelburg on 19 September 1668 (p. 21-24). . Address to William III by the minister Johannes de Mey (Nagtglas, II, p.158-163) on behalf of the States of Zealand, concluded by citations from the Bible, and of Plutarch and Plato (p. 25-44). . Latin laudatory poem on the reception of William III in Zealand on 19 September 1668: "Ad Principem Auriacum &c. quum primaria Nobilitatis dignitas ad Ordinibus Zelandiae ipsi esset oblata", signed by 'Hortensius' with the motto 'Tandem fit surculus arbor' (p. 45-46).
