Rare original and only editions of two elegant Neo-Latin poems on shipbuilding and monkeys

Simius carmen., Widow of Mathurnus Denys, n.d. 8vo. 31 pp. Two rare original and only editions of these elegant Neo-Latin poems by the Jesuit Charles François Charleval, together in a charming contemporary binding and printed on the presses of the College of the Jesuits at Rennes. Charleval was born in Argentan (Orne) on the 5th of January 1667. He entered the Jesuit order in 1686 and died in Rennes in 1747. The first interesting poem is on maritime shipping and shipbuilding and is illustrated by a folding plate of a 17th century vessel under full sail with all the parts numbered and explaned in French on a separate unnumberd leaf. The second poem is on the properties of monkeys serving at the same time as a mirror for human behaviour. Good copies of these very rare and interesting Neo-Latin poems.- (Plate and explicatory leaf somewhat shaved; rebacked).
