Montbéliard, Deckherr Frères, (ca. 1800). 4to. Old boards, original blue wrappers preserved, with full-page popular woodcuts on front and back covers. With 8 full-page woodcuts in text. 100 pp. in 2 columns.

Rare French chapbook on Charlemagne, his Twelve Peers, and the great Fierabras, published by Deckherr, in Montbéliard. The large woodcut on front wrapper shows Charles riding out with a sword in his hand. The full-page woodcut on back cover shows Saint Clothilde giving a piece of gold to Aurelien, and is repeated as frontispiece. The other fine large woodcuts show the duel between Olivier and Fierabras, the admiral hearing the news of the death of his son, the murder of the Duke of Naîme by Lucafars, the killing of Guy on the battle-field, the forcing of an entry by Duke Richard into the castle of Mantrible, and the apparition of Saint Jacques to Charlemagne.
