Rare first edition of this uncommon history of the Benedictine monastery of Sancta Giustina di Padova (Padua) and also of the city of Padua by the learned monk from that convent: Giacomo Cavaccio (1567-1612) who included remarks and references up till 1601. A second edition was published in 1696.has dedicated his work to the archbishop of Milan, Federico Borromeo, dated 1 April 1606. The Basilica and convent of Sancta Giustina were built on the legendary paleo-Christian site of the martyrdom of St. Giustine, where the sacellum of St. Prosdocimo, the patron saint of Padua, was built in the 16th century. The convent now houses the Benedictine Monastery National Library.

Very good and clean copy. Ex-libris of Syston Park and M.A. Elton on the back of the front cover; ownership's entries in manuscript on the title: 'Ex libris J. Nicolay … Pictaviensis' and 'François Laguille (?, partly errased)' - (Some insignificant stains; spine somewhat faded).
