Rare Dixmude edition of this popular Catholic catechism and chapbook. Already in 1619 it was approved for use at schools in Antwerp. According to Van Heurck especially the books used at schools were richly illustrated with woodcuts, often taken from whatever the publisher happened to have in stock, and still in the 19th century they were illustrated with woodcuts from the rich stock of blocks still left from the 16th and 17th century.
As each publisher used his own stock, the woodcuts in the various editions, although mainly devotional, were quite different. Here most woodcuts are devotional too, including small emblems of the Holy Heart, etc., or ornamental pieces with cherubs, but occasionally also a popular woodcut is present, of a sailing ship or a courting pair, etc. The catechism was also published, with some variations, under the title "Cabinet der Christelyke Wysheid", "Het Kleyn Cabinet der Christelyke Wysheid", and "Het vermeerderd dobbel Kabinet".
