Second edition of this account of the battle of the Dutch ship the 'Medusa' against the Japanese fleet to force the entrance of the narrow Strait of Simonoseki and maintain a free passage for trading on 11 July 1863. This work was written by captain-lieutenant in the Royal Dutch Navy, François de Casembroot (1817-1895) who also was the commander of the steamer (Stoomoorlogskorvet)  'Medusa' who made this turbulent mission to Japan during the years 1862, 1863 and 1864.
