Joachim Heinrich Campe (1746-1818), a famous German pedagogue, who had been the teacher of Alexander and Wilhelm von Humboldt, in 1787 became director of the publishing and bookseller's office of the Orphanage at Braunschweig, later the "Braunschweigische Schulbuchhandlung", and published a large number of educational books, including the famous "Robinson der Jüngere". Chapter 29 accounts of Captain Cook's last voyage. Chapter 12 is about the 'humanity' of the American Native from the Abenaki tribe. Fine copy.- (Small piece cut out of bottom of title).
