Very popular picture-book with movable plates, published in the series: "Wonderboeken voor 't Jonge Nederland" (Miraculous Books for the Young Netherlands). The plates can be folded out from the middle to all sides, thereby each time changing the scene completely, both on the front and on the back side of the plates. The movable plates depict varying scenes of performances in the circus, of a hunting party, a performance with the magic lantern, and of a children's party, with the plates on verso showing additional scenes on the same subjects. Elise van Calcar-Schiötling (1822-1904), literary author and pedagogue, zealously advocated the educational methods of Fröbel. Calcar's movable picture books are very rare.
