Rare first edition of the enlarged German translation of Caspar Bussing's armorial in Latin which had been printed by the same publisher only one year earlier under the title: Conspectus heraldicae, succinta, curiosa & perspicua ratione adornatae, in duas partes digiestae (Hamburg, Schultze, 1693). As announced on the title, the preface contains two extra texts with separate titles (='part 3'), treating the history and main general principles of heraldry: "Eröffnung des Bremisch-Verdischen Ritter-Saals durch ein dienstzeigendes Einladungs-Schreiben an die wohlgebohrne und hochansehnliche Ritterschaft der Hertzogthümer Bremen und Verden", dated Bremen, 21 October 1690 and illustrated with the coat-of-arms of Charles XI, King of Sweden in whose service Bussing was at the time (f. 3-12), and "Des Bremisch-Verdischen Ritter-Saals, nach gesehener Eröffnung, zuerst erschienender Herren-Sitz, vorstellend Ihrer K. Maj. zu Schweden ... Vollständiges-Wapen aller teutschen Provintzien" in four chapters, illustrated with the four folding plates with many coat-of-arms (f. 13-49).
Then follows the first part of the original work, beginning with a separate title: "Der Einleitung zu der Herolds-Kunst, erster Theil. Des Heil. Römisch-Teutschen Reichs vornehmste Wapen enthaltend". This part contains the descriptions of the coat-of- arms of the Emperor, Electors, bishops and nobility of the German empire, illustrated with 53 armorial half-page engraved plates in the text (f. 50-106).
The second part, preceded by a second frontispiece and title, contains the descriptions of the coat-of-arms of the Pope and the kings and other rulers of Italy (including the arms of the Republic of Venice), France, the Prince of Orange, Spain, Portugal, England, Scandinavia, Poland the Russian Tsar, the arms of the provinces of the Southern and Northern Low Countries and the cantons of Switzerland, illustrated with 24 armorial half-page engraved plates in the text (f. 107-131).
On the last leaf are the extensive notices for the binder, instructing him how to cut the sheets and how to sew the leaves and separate plates in an oblong format, although the text is printed upright ("anders als ordinar: ... dass es nicht hinten, sondern unten bey der Signaturen geheftet, und ablänglich als ein Noten-Büchlein aussgefertiget wird").
Caspar Bussing (or Büssing, or Bussingius; 1658-1732) was appointed professor after he had left the service of the Swedish king. A second edition of the German translation appeared in 1713, also in Hamburg.

Very good curiously bound copy of this rare book on heraldry.- (Binding a bit spotted and soiled).
