Auction catalogue of a fine collection of rare books, collected - according to the short preface - by the library's anonymous owner with much care and great taste, many bought on the previous auctions of the libraries of Gaignat, Lemarié, Randon de Boisser, Paris de Meyzieu, Gouttard, the Duke of La Valliere, etc.

The auctions would spread over three days and subjects were divided as follows:
  • Théologie: nos. 1-42, including the first Aldus Bible from 1518, a "superbe exemplaire", which sold for Frs. 150.-
  • Jurisprudence: nos. 43-53, including Grotius's De Jure Belli ac Pacis from 1720 for a mere Frs. 9.
  • Sciences & arts, the largest section with: nos. 54-1131, including a superb copy of the first Aldus ed. of Aristoteles from 1496 for Frs. 255, and the Historia Naturalis by Pliny, published in Venice by Joannes de Sira in 1469 for Frs. 3000, and a French and English ed. of Hamilton's Observations sur les Volcans des deux Siciles from 1776, for Frs. 565, and Bidloo's "Anatomia" from 1685 for Frs. 288.
  • Belles lettrs: nos. 1132-1363, with beautiful copies of classical authors, the French poets etc., but also including all works by Kircher in 23 volumes, published by Janssonius van Waesberge in Amsterdam, for Frs. 1451.
  • Histoire: nos. 1364-1812, including a copy printed on vellum of Pompa introitus Ferdinandi Austriaci in urbem Antverpiam, from 1641 for Frs. 1825.

  • At the end, a full index is added. Our copy, priced throughout was probably used by the notary present at the auction or by the auctioneer himself. Rare and interesting with all prices.

Fine copy, with a note on a slip of paper mounted on first endpaper, stating that it came from the collection of Camus de Limars, auctioned off by Crevenna at Amsterdam in 1789, where it was sold for Hfl. 4.50.- (Professionally restored and rebacked by J. Macdonald & Co., Norwalk, Conn., with his stamp on top of first endpaper).
