The second edition was printed in 1710 and the third in 1721, also in Rotterdam. The historian Geeraardt Brandt (Amsterdam, 25 July 1626 - Rotterdam, 12 October1685) became known by means of his tragedy on the history of Hamlet De Veinzende Torquatus (1645). In 1660 he became a Remonstrant preacher in Hoorn. This work is considered to be the principle work for later studies of these religious and political happenings, although it is quite Remonstrant tinted and therefore disputed by the Calvinists.
