Dutch translation and adaptation by Gerard Goris after the original French edition of 1658 by Louise Bourgeois, dite 'La Boursier' ( 1564-1644), who was a French Royal midwife, a.o. to Maria de Medici and the author of several works on the subject. In the present work all aspects of pregnancy and birth are being described, but also the medical explainations of miscarriage, infertility and illnesses that occur during pregnancy.Bourgeois was a pupil of the famous French physician and obstretician Ambroise Paré and introduced and organized for the first time a professional method for the instruction and education of midwifes, preparing them on their tasks and duties in a sound manner.
