The fine and interesting atlas only of the French circumnavigation by Baron De Bougainville, not to be confused with Louis de Bougainville who sailed earlier. The lithographed views were made by Bichebois, Sabatier, and Bayot after designs by E.B. de Touanne, and produced by the Paris firm Bernard et Frey. They show views and costumes of India, the Philippines, China (3), Cambodia (4), Java, Sidney and Australia (7), Chile (8), Rio de  la Plata (3), and Brazil (6).
The fine colour-printed engraved plates by H. Legrand, Massard, Coutant, and  Dumesnil, after designs by Prêtre, and P. Bessa, show plants and animals, including a curious case of Siamese twins, the Australian kangaroo, two beautiful plates of  the Australian parrot, and a fine colour-plate with butterflies. The double-page maps and plates were all engraved by Amboise Tardieu, mostly after designs by  E.B. de la Touanne, and include a folding double-page map of the world, comprising the route of the voyage  of De Bougainville as well as the earlier route of the  voyage by La Perouse, 2 double-page plates with views of the coast-lines of the Maldives and the Philippines, and a beautiful hand-coloured plate with sailing ships and rowing boats in use in the Chinese Sea and Indian  Ocean by China, Manilla, the Dutch East-Indies, and Japan.
Good copy.- (Small restoration to title; library stamp on title, and small stamp on the double-page maps and plates at the end; 2 of the lithographed plates sl. foxed).
