Paris, Chez Huquier, (1736). 2 parts in 1 vol. Folio. 19th century dark marbled calf, spine ribbed and richly gilt, with gilt triple fillet borders on sides, with gilt floral ornaments at the four corners, gilt triple inner fillets, g.e. With 2 series of 7 fine engraved plates of water fountains, including 2 titles, the first series engraved by Huguier, and the second series by P. Aveline, both after rich and decorative designs by François Boucher. 14 lvs., versos blank.

Fine copy of the two sets with the beautiful designs for fountains by François Boucher (1703-1770), famous French painter and decorative draughtsman, professor and later director of the Paris Academy, inspector of the Gobelin manufacture at Paris, and "peintre du Roi". Especially the present designs, richly decorative and including cherubs, nymphs, Neptune and other water gods and godesses belong to his best, and many of them were actually used, e.g. the Neptune which is very close to the  design of the fountain in the Place Royale at Nancy. The present sets were published by Huquier, who also engraved the first series, which  bears the address "vis à vis le Grand Chatelet", while the second series, engraved by Paul Avelin, bears Huguier's earlier address: rue St. Jacques. The publication of both sets was announced in the "Mercure de France" in 1736. Extra inserted: 18th century engraved copy of plate 6 of  the first series, showing a rich design with two Tritons blowing on  trumpet-shells, unsigned.
