Not only the art of writing is extensively and systematically treated, but also all writing materials, like vellum, paper, different sorts of inks, pens, etc. are extensively and systematically discussed, including their preparation, conservation and restauration. The fine plates show various types of calligraphic specimen, the use of the ruler, the cutting  of pens, etc.
