With 12 double-page aquatint views by W.H. Hoogkamer, 6 in grey colouring and 6 in sepia. 115, (1 blank) pp. Finely produced and beautifully illustrated story book telling about the wonders of the world, under the very popular motto of "travelling while sitting by the fire". The beautiful aquatint plates include views of Jerusalem, the harbour of Rio de Janeiro, Cadix, Gibraltar, Egyptians rowing on the Nile, Napels, a view of Bern in Switzerland, the Palais Royale at Paris, a watercompany at Malacca, the strange iceberg seen by Captain Parry, etc. On pp. 34- 35 the story of the voyage of Captain Parry, who encountered several icebergs, is mentioned. Also the eruptions of the Vesuvius of 7 october 1727 and of in the year 79 are treated, covering Naples and Pompei with its ashes (pp. 53-67). Fine copy, with the bookplate of the "Kinderbuch-Sammlung von Walter Schatzki".
