Separately published issue of a mysterious larger series

[CHILDREN'S BOOKS].
Geschenk voor de Jeugd.

With illustration on engraved title by R. Vinkeles, and with 12 full-page fine engraved plates.

Amst., J. Allart, 1784. Sm.8vo. Orig. boards. With illustration on engraved title by R. Vinkeles, and with 12 full-page fine engraved plates. 313-362 pp.

Separately published issue of a larger series. Still, the series under the same title, published by J. Allart in  the 1780's does not seem to be its origin. A regular volume of the series, as described by Waller, consists of 2 parts of about 260  pages at the most, each part with no more than three or four plates. Most parts of Waller's series are mainly in prose, so our song- and picture-book, firmly in the state in which it was published at the time, remains something of a mystery. It contains 12 songs, each illustrated with a fine engraved  plate. The songs are on New Year, Easter, Ascension Day, Whitsun, Christmas, home-life, neighbourly talk, a last song, the Beau, the obedient son, and a song to a proud lady, by whom was meant Betje Wolff! All poems can be sung to a popular tune.
Fine copy.
Cf. Waller 596; KLKL 226 (1st part of 1781, also with poetry, but without plates); NUC lists 1 copy under this title.
