Turnhout, Glénisson, Van Genechten, (ca. 1830). Oblong small 8vo. Original lithographed wrappers. With 11 lithographed plates, all beautiful coloured by hand, showing scenes of children's good and bad behaviour. 22 pp.

Bilingual Dutch and French edition of this "pictorial courtesy book". The plates were obviously copied from the French editions, and published by the House of Glénisson and Van Genechten at Turnhout, famous for its printing of chapbooks and catchpenny prints. The text is printed in French and Dutch parallel in 2 columns. As shown on the plates, the children are taught to greet politely, not to sit with  their elbows on the table at dinner, not to yawn in company, to offer people a chair, not to dirty their mother's dress, to be polite and pay small attentions to parents and to older people, etc.

Very nice copy of a charming courtesy chapbook.
