With 6 fine engraved plates, coloured by hand. (4), 84 pp. Fine illustrated reading book with educational short stories and verses. Instead of a title-page there is a dedicatory poem to youth, signed D., and dated Haarlem, 1826. The full title is shown on the front wrapper. A fine coloured plate of two sailing-ships in battle serves as frontispiece. One of the stories is on Hendrik Goltzius, illustrated by a coloured plate showing Goltzius drawing amidst classical columns and a statue. Another story is on Albert Schaap, who fought the Algerian pirates in the 17th century. At the end a last word from the author, again signed D., expressing his hope that youth will learn the beauty of virtue and the ugliness of vice from reading his book. Fine uncut copy.
