Beautifully illustrated children's book of poems based on the Gospels and the Proverbs from the Scriptures, with a two-line quotation and bible-reference at the top of each poem. The poems themselves are the usual simple verses for children teaching them morals and rules of conduct. The charming plates show Jesus preaching to the children, the good Samaritan, a child looking after a sick old man, a miser guarding his gold, a boy saving a little girl from drowning and handing her back to her mother, a woman pleading with the king, a gentleman warning a boy not to beat his cart-dog, guiding a blind man, saving people from the ice, a family sitting down at a good and sober dinner and another family debauching, etc.

Good copy.- (One leaf stained).
Coll. Caljé-Van Gulik 350 (although with the same publisher's address, also undated, stated to have 16 ills. on 4 lithographed plates, so obviously quite another edition).
