First collected edition of all three books of poetry by Anna Bijns, a spinster and school teacher at "Het  Roosterken" in Antwerp. The first title reads: "Konstighe Refereynen" as quoted above, but the titles of the second and third parts read: "Schoone Refereynen, Vol Schrifture ende Leeringhen teghen alle ketterijen van desen tijdt". Anna Bijns was the most famous of the early "Rederijkers", and her motto read: "Meer suers dan soets" (more vinegary than sweet). Her imaginative and sensitive poetry is still vallued by poetry lovers, and new editions never stopped appearing. The first book of "Refereynen" was published at Antwerp in 1528, the second in 1548, and the third in 1567. The present popular edition is printed in a fine Gothic type, with references in a very small Roman type in the margins. The privilege at the end is dated 1646.
