First edition of a beautiful album, depicting 12 detailed views of Egyptian cities and their surroundings and 12 plates depicting different costumes of the region. The plates are from 2 French orientalist painters, the costume plates are designed and executed by Alexandre Bida (1823-1895), pupil of Eugène Delacroix. Bida travelled through Egypt, Greece, Turkey, Libanon and Palestina. The views are designed by Prosper Barbot (1798-1878) who was a pupil of Jules Coignet and Louis Watelet. He made 2 journeys to Egypt in 1844 and 1846.
