Lithographed title and 24 tinted lithographs of which the first 12 depict costumes, designed and lithographed by Bida and the last 12 depict views, designed by Barbot and lithographed by Cicéri. First edition of a beautiful album, depicting 12 detailed views of Egyptian cities and their surroundings and 12 plates depicting different costumes of the region. The plates are from 2 French orientalist painters, the costume plates are designed and executed by Alexandre Bida (1823-1895), pupil of Eugène Delacroix. Bida travelled through Egypt, Greece, Turkey, Libanon and Palestina. The views are designed by Prosper Barbot (1798-1878) who was a pupil of Jules Coignet and Louis Watelet. He made 2 journeys to Egypt in 1844 and 1846. Chadenat: 'Très belle album non mis dans le commerce.' Beautiful copy.
