One of the many editions of the New Testamend, here combined with the Psalms in the Marot/Beza translation with musical scores, published by Antoine Cellier. Most of the copies we traced have slightly different contents or different combinations of editions. Darlow & Moule list 2 variant copies of this so-called 'French Geneva version': a copy without the additional engraved title but with a Table de matieres and with the Metrical Psalms etc. of 1679, and a copy with the engraved title, Metrical Psalms etc. of 1675, without a table. Our copy is yet another variant, without the table but with the engraved additional title and Metrical Psalms etc. of 1679. Delaveau & Hillard note that 'certain copies' have an 8-page table at the end.
The publisher Antoine Cellier issued his first version of the Psalms put in French verse by Clement Marot and Théodore de Bèze as early as around 1636, and a version of the New Testament already in 1653. He continued to publish new editions of both works every few years up to 1681.

Good, attractively bound copy.- (Vellum on sides sl. rubbed).
Darlow & Moule 3763; Delaveau & Hillard 2632 (Psalms) and 4136 (New Testament).
