Beautifully illustrated French bible, a re-issue of the Lefèvre-version printed in 1534 by Martin de Keyser. It is the same edition as the one by Antoine des Gois, with only the title and corresponding leaf reprinted. The work is impressive for the numerous woodcuts and the carefully achieved typography: printed in two columns of gothic type (bastarda). The woodcuts are finely executed: the upper woodcut of the  border on the title represents the Nativity with St. Peter at the left  and St. Paul at the right; the lower is an allegorical scene of the  original sin redeemed by the death of Christ. The woodcut borders at the left and right represent the four evangelists: John and Lucas separated by the arms of Charles V at the left, and Mathew and Marc separated by the arms of Martin de Keyser at the right.
Fine copy.- (Binding sl. rubbed, clasps gone; some stains; margins last lvs. neatly repaired, without loss; ms. ownerships entries on verso of the title and on verso of the last lf.; 2 lvs. misbound; blank prelim. leaf from O.T. lacking).
Bibl. Belg. B 81; Belg. Typogr. 437; Chambers, French Bibles, 85; Adams B 1130; not in Darlow-Moule, nor Machiels.
