The famous Elsevier Bible, the only official Dutch bible printed in roman type instead of the traditional gothic, interleaved with Picart's folio Print-Bible Figures de la Bible (1720), the most sumptuous pictorial bible published in the Netherlands, here in the very rare earliest edition published by the artist himself, and both Bible and Print-Bible put together in two beautiful volumes, one for the Old and one for the New Testament, most luxuriously and splendidly produced by the so-called "Herten Binderij", active in Rotterdam at the beginning of the 18th century. A truly unique piece, combining the top results of all aspects of Dutch book production, Elsevier's printing, Picart's engravings, and a binding by the Rotterdam workshop the "Herten Binderij", undoubtedly the equal of Magnus. We are grateful to Dr J. Storm van Leeuwen for his kind information on the Rotterdam workshop the "Herten Binderij". Magnificent set.
