First edition of a travel account to Syria, by the Jesuit Jean Besson (1610-1619). Before he travelled through Syria, Persia and Arabia, he was rector of Nimes and taught rhetorica and philosophy. The first part specifically recounts the establishment, development and progress of the Jesuit mission in Syria. The second part describes the holy and sacred places that were visited. It gives a very detailed and interesting description of Syria and of the various customs and habits of the Druse, Maronite and Turkish people, etc.
