On cholera; dedication copy by the author

BENOIT, Carlos Luis.
Observaciones sobre el cólera-morbo espasmódico, ó Mordechi de las Indias Orientales, recogidas en las Islas Filipinas y publicadas con su método curativo.

Madrid, Imprenta de D.L. Amarita, 1832. 16mo. Contemporary half green morocco, spine gilt. 109, (3) pp.

Very rare Spanish translation of the thesis of the author Carlos Luis Benoit, which he presented in 1827 at the university of Montpellier, France, at the faculty of medicine. Benoit explains the causes, caracteristics and symptoms, together with the cures of the cholera disease. In 1820 Benoit went to Manila, just in the period when a violent cholera epidemic was infesting the country. He got involved in studying the infected people, trying hard to find a proper cure. For his service he received several awards. Our copy has a hand written dedication by the author to the Duke of Fezensac, the French ambassador in Madrid.
Good copy, with ms. dedication of the author to the Duke of Fezensac, Ambassador of France in Spain.
Pardo de Tavero 268; not found in any reference work on the Philippines; KVK list 3 copies of which one in the Wellcome library.
