First and only edition of this only description and history of the town and barony of Asperen before 1925, by the 'Drossaert' and dike-grave of Asperen Martinus Beekman. Beekman dedicated his work to Philip Jacob Count Van de Boetzelaer and his wife Constantia Maria Dutry van Haaften, the Lord and Lady of the town and barony of Asperen and Langerak (p. iii-vi). After a preface (p. vii-xiv), a list of authors mentioning Asperen (p. xv) and corrections (p. xvi), follows the text which is illustrated by 7 plates, all engraved by F. van Bleyswyk. Two of the plates are full-page: the lavishly decorated coat-of-arms of Van den Boetzelaer and his wife, and a plate with the seals of Asperen. The 5 folding plates include a general view on Asperen, two plans of Asperen, one of which representing the situation in 1517 with the castle still standing, a view of the castle Van Waddesteyn, and the 'Groote kerk' (the main church).
