First edition of the Dutch translation from the Latin of  'Libri III de induciis belli belgici'  (first published at Leyden in 1613), written by Dominicus Baudius (1561-1613), on the Eighty Years war, especially on the history of the Twelve Years Truce (1609-1621), the ceasefire between the United Provinces and Spain. Baudius, professor of history at Leyden, was commissioned by the Staten Generaal to write this history. The works starts with a letter of the translator ' De Toeèyghen-Brief' signed P.I.V.S. (Petrus Jacobi Austrosylvius =Petrus Jacobus van Suiderwoude). The large folding plate contains a portrait of Johan van Oldenbarnevelt (1547-1619).
