Each plate is present two times (in different states). All plates are after drawings by the author engraved by a.o. W.R. Smith, E. Finden, R. Wallis, W. Woolnoth, etc. (189 lvs).

Fine plate book with steel-engraved frontispiece, 60 full-page steel-engraved plates and steel-engraved tail-piece, all full-page plates with an explanation in English and French. Each plate being in two different states. The plates depict landscapes and towns at the Rhine, Belgium and Holland, such as: The palace at Heidelberg, Frankfurt, the cathedral at Mayence, Bacharach, ruins at Andernach, the cathedral at Cologne, the Ghent gate at Bruges, Utrecht, the palace at The Hague, the Wester church at Amsterdam, etc. All plates are made from drawings by Robert Batty (1789-1848), who was an army officer, draughtsman and etcher.
