Ad 1-2: Original edition of these commentaries on the Gospels of St. John (Ch. 1-9, and 13) by the zealotic Anabaptist Frans Baltensz (first half of the 17th centuy), who was a printer in Dordrecht. This work of which Knipscheer in his biographical article in the NNBW says that it is 'as famous for its unintelligibility, as it is sought-after for its rarity', was already forbidden before it was printed. The author is told to have cut his manuscript apart to pieces and afterwards to have put the pieces on his printing press.
Ad 3: Rare and curious treatise, more important for its curious orthography than for its literary value.
Ad 4: The special and strange orthography of Van Overschie's poetry, resulted in many critical reactions. This letter in rhymed form is written by the Rotterdam litterary society 'Natura et arte'.
